Subject:Q: What is the most infuriating story you'll read in 2007?
Security:Public

A: It's still early, and there's plenty of 2007 left to be infuriated by, but I doubt you'll come across a story more absurdly, pointlessly horrible than that of Genarlow Wilson, the African-American honor student currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for receiving a blow job from a 15-year-old when he was 17.

plagiarism!

this is a disaster. if you're going to steal my identity, at least have the courtesy to be aesthetically delightful.

kudos to livejournal for trying to win me back with this fancy schmancy toolbar/real-text/tags shit. but sorry, baby, i'm with blogger now. too bad you didn't still of that two years ago, when i still cared.

i still read all my friends journals on my rss feed, those that are updated, i.e., semi-monthly posts from scott c. & billy k.

LiveJournal is dead. Long live Blogger.

Note that I will still post my more private thoughts here, on account of how no one will ever see them.

mardi gras makes everyone a little frisky: Mardi Gras Climaxes on Fat Tuesday [Fox News]

they were going to use "mardi gras comes on the face of destruction," but they didn't want to seem biased.

in any event, hopefully New Orleans coverage will destract everybody in the press if Haiti goes on another civil-war-bender. they don't need any more bad press in Port-au-Prince.

the best part about missing carnival 2006 is being able to blog carnival 2006 in real-time. the second best part is probably not getting maimed.

from page two of Reuters' coverage of the Saddam Hussein trial:

Saddam, 68, who could face death by hanging if convicted, was subdued compared to previous sessions dominated by his tirades...Saddam ended a hunger strike for "health reasons", lawyers said, before returning to the trial...
man, i hate it when a good hunger strike gets fucked up by poor health.

good reasons to end a hunger strike:
"health reasons"
"hunger reasons"
"weed reasons"
"death reasons"
"sandwich reasons"

long story short: i'm going back to Haiti.

long story medium: i'm scheduled to be in the midst of Port-au-Prince's Carnival in about eight hours, where I will be riding in a parade float with Wyclef Jean and Fox News. update: parades are for suckers. also, i missed my flight [update #2: as it happens, American Airlines forgot to mention that they never had a seat for me in the first place, so I'm going to go ahead and blame them]. yeesh. disappointing, but it wasn't really the brunt of my story, and at least it's one less opportunity to get killed. anyway, i'm leaving tomorrow. i'll try to make up for missing the carnival/media circus by asking Clef for some rare solo time. we'll see...

long story long: details to come. i should probably pack get drunk.

Misplaced vote might have helped London win bid

LONDON -- A senior Olympic official says a misplaced vote might have helped London win the 2012 Olympics.

Alex Gilady said Friday a fellow International Olympic Committee member mistakenly voted for Paris rather than Madrid in July for the right to host the games. Another vote for Madrid might have stopped London from winning.

In an earlier interview with Israeli Army Radio, Gilady said the unidentified delegate wanted to change his vote after apparently forgetting which city he chose.

The delegate apparently was Lambis Nikolaou, president of the Greek Olympic Committee. He complained after the third round of voting he did not have time to register his choice, but his objection was dismissed and it was shown all votes had been cast.

this morning's post is being written from Alfonso C.'s bed, in an enormous West Village loft that is about to become the third and most spacious apartment I've been kicked out of in the past week. true story, on both accounts, each account more absurd than the last. anyway, "Y Tu Mama Tambien" is a sweet movie, and incidentally, this is a sweet bed. don't, by the way, mention any of this to Alfonso. let's just keep it our little Honey Lemon Sucret.

speaking of minor celebrities and secrets and beds, the oft-mentioned Ann G.(ray) is in town and I am to see her tonight -- nine years and seven months to the day of our first makeout. also, incidentally, our last makeout. my plan is...well, you know what my plan is, on account of my having mentioned it constantly over the past nine years and six months. like Maxwell House (or possibly, I don't know, Folgers), it is time to taste each other again, for the first time. or maybe that's Corn Flakes. regardless, hopefully we'll make it all night long, and it won't be your father's Oldsmobile. unless she's married, which would be such a major buzzkill.

on a related set of notes: recently I tried to fill the hole in my heart with sex. the girl previously known as M., a.k.a. Melissa, took a bus into town from Boston, and we had a weekend bender. holes were filled, but not heart holes, and so I moved on. then I tried to fill the hole in my heart with passionate love, and it worked, for a moment, until suddenly and abruptly, my ex-girlfriend Lexi and I tried to create new holes in each other's organs, namely by stabbing each other. then I tried to fill the hole in my heart with solitude, and that was glorious, until three days later, I was uncerimoniously (also unlegally) asked to leave by my landlord, who oopsie-daisy had rented my apartment out to somebody else a week early. on the bright side, he paid me six hundred and nineteen dollars for the inconvenience, which will have to suffice as my income for the time being. my hearthole remains sadly hollow, so now I guess I'm going back to filling it with drugs. awesome.

indeed, events of the recent past and, mayhaps, near future demand bloggage, and bloggage they shall get. possibly. barring my being killed later today in a terrorist attack, or, more promisingly, fucked to death. or more realistically, lazy. but cross your magic little fingers and snap your toes and break a mirror and blow a frog and maybe just maybe all your dreams will come true, and the livejournal posts will flow like raspberry liqueur, and there will be hundreds of free nudey photos and four score and seven stories of mirth and ill-begotten splendours, and balloons for the children, who will laugh, oh how they will laugh and sing.
